Abstract

Darba mērķis ir izpētīt artikulu lietojumu ar īpašvārdiem sabiedriskajā mēdiju organizācijā bbc.com. Darbā tiek pētīti visbiežāk izmantotie artikuli un izmantotās īpašvārdu kategorijas. Turklāt, pētijumā tiek salīdzināti rakstu korpusi, kas apkopoti no divām BBC Travel apakšsadaļām: Kultūra un Piedzīvojumi. Pētījumu metode ir diskursa analīze, izmantojot kvantitatīvus elementus. Teksta analīzes rezultātos ir redzams, ka visbiežāk sastopams artikuls ir nulles artikuls un lietoto īpašvārdu kategorija ir ģeogrāfisko objektu kategorija. Var secināt, ka abās sadaļās lielo lomu spēlē vietu apraksts un ar to saistīta artikulu lietošana ceļošanas laikā. Neskatoties uz to, piedzīvojumu korpusā ir vairāk ģeogrāfisko īpašvārdu, jo tēmas ir vērstas uz vietvārdiem, kas saistītas ar aktīvo atpūtu. Kopumā, īpašvārdi ir nozīmīgas leksiskas vienības sabiedrisko mēdiju diskursā BBC Travel.

The goal of this thesis is to explore the use of articles with proper nouns in a public service broadcaster bbc.com. The research determines the most frequently used article and category of proper nouns. Moreover, the study compares the use of articles in two corpora compiled from two subsections: Culture and Adventure. The implemented research method is discourse analysis with quantitative elements. The investigation reveals that the most frequently used article is the zero article, and the most frequently used category of proper nouns is the category geographical objects. It can be claimed that in both corpora there is a strong emphasis on locations as the articles are related to travelling. Nevertheless, there are even more geographical names in the corpus of adventure as the topics are focused on place names for active leisure. All in all, proper nouns play a significant role in BBC Travel discourse.
