Abstract

Maģistra darba Metaforas Cicerona darbā Epistulae ad Familiares mērķis ir izpētīt metaforu lietojumu un nozīmi Cicerona pilsoņu kara laikā rakstītajās vēstulēs. Darbā tiek analizētas vēstules trīs adresātu grupās – ģimene, draugi un politiskas personas. Darba teorētiskā daļa tiek balstīta uz antīko teorētiķu atziņām par metaforu un tās nozīmi, kā arī mūsdienu zinātniskās literatūras avotos esošajā informācijā gan par metaforu, gan par epistolāro žanru un Cicerona epistolāro mantojumu. Pētījuma praktiskajā daļā tiek analizēta metaforu dažādība atkarībā no adresāta un vēstules tematikas. Metaforas tiek iedalītas, izmantojot Dž. Leikofa un M. Džonsona piedāvāto metaforu klasifikāciju – strukturālās, ontoloģiskās un virzienu. Metafora kalpo ne tikai kā runu vai dzejas tekstu izskaistināšanas elements, bet arī kā ikdienišķa mutiskās un rakstu valodas sastāvdaļa. Tā palīdz efektīvāk pasniegt vēlamo domu, ja izvēlētie vārdi nespēj to veikt pamatnozīmē.

The theme of master’s thesis is Metaphors in Cicero’s Epistulae ad Familiares. The aim of this research is to explore the use and meaning of metaphors in Cicero’s letters that are written in the Great Roman Civil War. Research is based on three groups of addressees – family, friends, and political persons. The theoretical part is based on views of ancient authors about metaphors and contemporary theories about metaphors and research about epistolary genre and Cicero’s epistolary heritage. The practical part deals with the analysis of types of metaphors based on the addressees and topic of the letter. Metaphors are being classified based on the metaphor theory given by G. Lakoff and M. Johnson. Metaphor is not only a part of orations and poetry as an embellishment, but also a part of everyday speech and writing. It helps to convey a specific meaning better than a word in its denotational meaning can.
