Šausmas un bailes izraisošas vietas E. A. Po darbos

Abstract

Šī pētījuma gaitā es analizēju septiņus Edgara Alana Po sarakstītus stāstus. Pētījums sastāv no divām galvenajām daļām. Teorētiskajā daļā es izpētu būtiskākos darbus, kas sarakstīti par Po un vietas un šausmu jēdzieniem. Empīriskā daļa ietver tekst analīzi un manus secinājumus. Šī pētījuma mērķis is analizēt dažādu vietu aprakstus Po stāstos. Mana analīze parāda kā Po rada iespaidu uz lasītājiem, izmantojot vietu aprakstu. Izmantotā pētījuma metode ir teksta analīze. Pēc stāstu izpētes esmu secinājusi, ka Edgar Alans Po pielieto vairākas metodes, tai skaitā atkārtojumu un īpašu vārdu izvēli, lai radītu stāstus, kas liek lasītājiem just spriedzi un bailes. Vēl viens svarīgs veids kā Po to panāk, ir detalizēti vietu apraksti, kas izraisa šausmu sajūtas.

In this research I have analysed seven stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. This paper consists of two major parts. In the theoretical part I discuss relevant studies that have been done about Poe and the notions of space, place, horror and terror. The empirical part contains text analysis and my conclusions. The purpose of this research is to analyse descriptions of different places and spaces in Poe’s stories. My analysis shows how Poe uses narrative place and space to create a determinate effect on the readers. The research method used is text analysis and interpretation. After studying the stories, I have concluded that Edgar Allan Poe has used several methods, including repetition and vocabulary choice, to construct his stories in such a way that the readers feel suspense and fear. Another important way how he achieves that is by detailed description of places and spaces that evoke horror.
