Media language, due to the fundamental role media plays in information space, attracts different scholars and metaphor scholars have also been paying attention to the use and functions of metaphors in mass media, thus, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to consider the representation of Latvia in foreign media by determining the most frequently used source and target domains in the established corpus. The research is devised to identify the functions of the excerpted metaphors, thus contributing to the discussion of discursive strategies of the same. The theoretical considerations are largely established by the cognitive metaphor scholarship, while the empirical analysis is guided by discourse analysis method. The research allowed to conclude that most often used source domains are those of HUMAN BEHAVIOUR, BULDINGS & CONSTRUCTIONS, LIVING BEING AND DIRECTION UP and target domains, NATION, LIFE AND PAST and that, functionally, metaphors are most often used to describe and highlight specific occurrences.
