Darba ietvaros tika veikta mezokosma un ekotoksikoloģijas pētījuma rezultātu salīdzinājums, noskaidrojot plastmasas materiāla eluātu ietekmi gan in situ, gan in vivo apstākļos. An innovative study was performed in the master's thesis, in which the effect of plastic eluates on freshwater organisms for 11 weeks was described using mesocosm experimental methods. In the study physical (temperature, conductivity, pH) and chemical (total phosphorus, total nitrogen, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), ammonium nitrogen, dissolved oxygen) samples were collected and analyzed for 11 weeks. Also biological samples of phytoplankton and zooplankton were collected to characterize changes in populations. The study also describes the results of an ecotoxicological study performed on standard freshwater organisms Desmodesmus subspicatus and Hyalella azteca and the results were compared with the results of the mesocosm study. The mesocosm study found an indirect effect of plastic material on aquatic organisms, leading to a decrease in phytoplankton biomass and changes in the structure of the zooplankton population. The results of ecotoxicological tests did not show an effect of plastic eluates on the growth inhibation of D. Subspicatus, but a chronic effect on the H. azteca was observed
