Abstract
Šajā bakalaura darbā, pamatojoties uz McCarthy and Walter (1998), Glucksberg (2001), Kovács (2016), un Wagner (2020) izstrādātajiem teorētiskajiem materiāliem, tiek analizēts idiomu pielietojums Agatas Kristi romānos un to ekranizācijās. Darbā tiek izmantota teorijas un satura analīze (Krippendorff, 2004). Pētījuma rezultāti atklāj, ka idiomas ir izteicieni angļu valodā, kuru nozīme nav atvasināma, pievēršoties vienīgi atsevišķām to daļām. Idiomu izmantošana literārajos darbos, kā arī filmās un seriālos sniedz autoriem iespēju radīt nopietnu, dramatisku vai pat humoristisku efektu. Idiomas tiek plaši pielietotas visos četros analizētajos Kristi romānos. Tās izmantotas arī konkrēto darbu ekranizācijās, taču retāk kā oriģinālajos romānos.

The research paper focuses on the use of idioms novels by Agatha Christie and their screen adaptations. The analysis is based on the theory proposed by McCarthy and Walter (1998), Glucksberg (2001), Kovács (2016), and Wagner (2020). The analysis of the theories, as well as content analysis, have been applied in the paper (Krippendorff, 2004). Results reveal that idioms are expressions in the English language the meaning of which cannot be derived from its individual constituents. By applying idioms in works of fiction, as well as film and television, aesthetic purposes can be achieved - the writers are able to create a more serious, dramatic, or even humorous effect. The use of idioms is very common in all four selected novels by Christie. Idioms are also applied in the screen adaptations, but not as frequently as in the novels.
