Nākotnes vīziju salīdzinoša analīze M.Atvudas romānos "Kalpones stāsts" un "Oriksa un Kreiks"

Abstract

Pašreizējais bakalaura darbs pēta nākotnes vīzijas M. Atvudas antiutopiskajos romānos. Atvuda romānos “Kalpones stāsts” un “Oriksa un Kreiks” apspriež divas iespējamās nākotnes versijas, kas, lai gan atainotas dažādos gadsimtos, tomēr balstās uz mūsdienu pasaules apstākļiem un pagātnes notikumiem. Pētījuma mērķis ir salīdzināt nākotnes vīzijas romānos un atklāt gan to atšķirības un līdzības valdības un sabiedrības organizācijā, gan to, kā atainota tehnoloģiju un reliģijas ietekme. Pētījumā izmantotas tādas metodes kā teksta analīze, teorijas par postmodernismu, antiutopijām, totalitārajām sistēmām, tehnoloģijām, reliģiju un varu. Šī pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka romāni piedāvā divas atšķirīgas nākotnes vīzijas un attēlo divu dažādu sistēmu līdzīgus elementus. Valdība un sabiedrība abos romānos tiek organizētas līdzīgi, reliģiskie teksti un tehnoloģijas tiek praktizēti atšķirīgi.

The current BA thesis investigates the visions of the future in Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novels The Handmaid’s Tale and Oryx and Crake. Atwood introduces different possible futures set in various centuries, which are based on the contemporary and historical conditions of the world. The aim of this paper is to compare the visions of the future in the novels and to reveal their differences and similarities in relation to the structure of the governments and society, as well as the impact of technologies and religion. The methodology of the research includes text analysis, studies of theoretical materials on postmodernism, dystopias, totalitarian system, technology, religion, and power. The results of the current research have revealed that the novels represent two different visions of future while discussing similar elements of two different socio-political systems. The conclusions of the paper emphasize that the role of the government in both novels is similar to other dictatorial regimes, while enhanced roles of religion and technological development may dictate different models of the society.
