The topic of this thesis is “Reflection of the consequences of South Koreas rapid industrialization and modernization in South Korean literature”. The relevance of this thesis is based on the fact that the development of the “Economic miracle” has been a popular topic not only in scientific works since the 1960s, but also in fiction, where authors often use this period as the background of their work. Because the authors often have lived in the same period, their works are personal, so Koreans can often relate these stories to their own experiences, also people are given a more personal insight into history hence the works are popular not only in South Korea but also elsewhere in the world. This thesis is 37 pages long, and consists of 3 chapters, which have 1 to 2 subsections each, as well as an appendix. The objective of this thesis was to reveal the real causes of Korea`s “Economic miracle”, not only the development and adaptation of industry and technology, but also to reveal the dramatic social and ecological cost of what it was about. The thesis examines how rapid industrialization has affected workers, women`s daily lives and the environment, and analyzes the literary works of various authors that reflect these aspects. While writing the thesis, it was concluded that the “Economic miracle” was base on inhumane treatment of workers and very difficult working conditions, women`s contribution to the economic development was ignored, and women as a whole in the patriarchal society were disregarded and often placed at the lower ranks of society, also the state deliberately ignored any environmental pollution in favor of rapid economic development.
