Product descriptions play a crucial role in promotion of a company’s goods, as they present product characteristics, attract target customers’ attention and raise their interest. To make them more appealing, copywriters use many creative linguistic elements that may be challenging to translate. Thus, such texts are usually transcreated – altered to the necessary extent to preserve the source text effect. In the present study, Russian and English translations of Latvian product descriptions, including product names and descriptions, are analysed in terms of strategies used to translate creative and culture-specific elements. Research method used is discourse analysis. The findings of the research show: the more unique and linguistically peculiar a source text element is, the more likely it is to be translated freely.
