Abstract
Animals rights and welfare is a topic that is increasingly debated, but often lacks clarity. The amount of research in the field is not as wide as, for instance, compared to human rights, despite the fact that animals are sentient beings just like humans. Naturally the thesis is valuable contribution to the field of animal rights and welfare. European Union legislation embodies obligation regarding animals, nevertheless legislation is fragmented because of the classification of different animals into groups.
