Darbības vārdu laika, aspekta un kārtas lietojums žurnālos English for Academic Purposes un English for Specific Purposes

Abstract

Vairāki iepriekšējie pētījumi ir koncentrējušies uz darbības vārda laika, aspekta un kārtas izmantojumu zinātniskajos rakstos (Swales, 1990; Salager-Mayer, 1992). Konkrētā pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt kā darbības vārda laika, aspekta un kārtas formu lietojums atšķīrās zinātniskajos žurnālos English for Academic Purposes un English for Specific Purposes. Izvēlētās pētījuma metodes, diskursa analīze un frekvences analīze, tika izmantotas, lai analizētu 12 zinātniskos rakstus, 6 no katra žurnāla. Tika atrasts, ka vienkāršā tagadne rakstos tika izmantota visbiežāk ievada, rezultātu, diskusijas un secinājumu nodaļā, lai pasniegtu datus kā zinātniskus apgalvojumus un izceltu to būtiskumu. Vienkāršā pagātne bija otrā visvairāk izmantotā forma un visbiežāk parādījās anotācijā un metodoloģijā, lai aprakstītu rezultātu iegūšanas procesu. Darāmā kārta bija izmantota visvairāk visās rakstu nodaļās.

Numerous previous studies have focused on the use of tense, aspect and voice verb forms in research articles (Swales, 1990; Salager-Mayer, 1992). This study aimed to investigate how the use of tense, aspect and voice verb forms varied across journals English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes. The selected methods, discourse analysis and frequency analysis, were applied to the corpus which consisted of 6 most recent articles from each journal. It was found that the simple present had the most instances overall and was preferred in the Introduction, Results, Discussion and Conclusions section to present the findings as scientific statements and highlight their relevance. The simple past was the second most preferred combination and was used most often in the Abstract and Methods sections to illustrate how the results were obtained. The active voice had the most instances overall in all article sections thus signifying an inclination towards the subjects of the study.
