When it comes to the discipline of semantics, in order to accurately assess meaning, it is crucial to study words within the given context, not in isolation. Semantic fields, also known as lexical fields, are sets of lexemes that are united by a particular semantic component. The aim of this paper is to analyse semantic fields in Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle. The research methods utilised are literature review and content analysis. During the analysis of the novel, the five main semantic fields identified pertained to themes such as house, family, village, magic, and food. The research results demonstrate that the most common types of lexical groups found in the novel are meronyms, antonyms, synonyms, and hyponyms.
