Pētījums veikts par līdz šim historiogrāfijā neaplūkotu tēmu - Latvijas PSR Ministru Padomes Fiziskās kultūras un sporta komitejas darbību laika periodā no 1944. līdz 1959. gadam. Pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt Latvijas PSR Ministru Padomes Fiziskās kultūras un sporta komitejas darbību, galveno uzmanību pievēršot sporta masveidības izvēršanai un sportistu sasniegumu veicināšanai, sporta sistēmas kvalitātes uzlabošanai un tās ietekmei uz sabiedrību. Sākotnēji tiek aplūkota fiziskās kultūras un sporta organizēšana un būtība PSRS, lai varētu izprast sporta lomu totalitārajā sistēmā. Tālāk pētījumā atspoguļota Latvijas PSR Fiziskās kultūras un sporta komitejas struktūra un izveide, kas saistāma par PSRS sporta organizācijas modeļa ieviešanu. Pētījuma galvenā daļa veltīta komitejas būtiskāko darbības virzienu raksturojumam un analīzei, kas izpaudās kā sporta masveidības izvēršana, sarīkojumu organizēšana, darbinieku kvalifikācijas celšana, materiāli tehniskās bāzes attīstība un metodisko materiālu izstrāde un izdošana. The research was carried out on a topic that has not been covered in the historiography so far - the activities of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Latvian SSR in the period from 1944-1959. The aim of the study is to investigate the activities of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of the Council of Ministers of the Latvian SSR, focusing on the expansion of sports mass participation and promotion of athletes' achievements, improvement of the quality of the sports system and its impact on society. Initially, the organisation and nature of physical culture and sport in the USSR is examined so that the role of sport in the totalitarian system can be understood. Furthermore, the study presents the structure and establishment of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of the Latvian SSR, which is attributed to the introduction of the sports organisation model in the USSR. The main part of the study is devoted to the description and analysis of the most important directions of the Committee's activity, which consisted in the expansion of sports mass participation, the organisation of events, the improvement of staff qualifications, the development of the material and technical base and the development and publication of methodological materials.
