Contracaecum osculatum nematodes parasitize various species of fish and grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) in the Baltic Sea. Despite the high abundance of this parasite, there are still gaps in the understanding of the genetic diversity of C. osculatum in the Baltic Sea. The aim of the work is to differentiate Anisakidae nematode species in the Baltic Sea in infra-populations of different hosts and to determine the genetic diversity of the C. osculatum population. Previously published data on the prevalence and genetic diversity of Anisakidae nematodes in North Sea and Baltic Sea hosts were summarised in the systematic literature review (PRISMA). In addition, analysing the prevalence of C. osculatum nematodes in the Baltic Sea, it was found that this species is common in infra-populations of different hosts and there is a heterogeneous C. osculatum population with high nucleotide and haplotype diversity.
