The ability to concentrate in sports psychology is related to focusing attention on information, sports performance depends on it. Previous studies have investigated the effect of concentration on both sports performance and EI and HRV measurements, but these relationships have not been analyzed together in the adolescent age group. Thus, the aim of the given study was to evaluate the effect of attention concentration exercises on game efficiency, reaction time, penalty throw accuracy, emotional intelligence, changes in heart rate variability and breathing frequency and relationships between variable factors. The study analyzed the factors affecting the ability to concentrate, as well as the effect of concentration using breathing exercises on the performance of a basketball game, self-regulation of emotions, which determines the level of emotional intelligence in the context of adolescent age. In order to investigate the impact of the intervention, a quasi-experimental study was implemented within one group, performing four consecutive measurements and implementing the intervention between the second and third measurements. The results of the study were analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA and showed statistically significant improvements (p<0.01) in game performance parameters during the intervention. The given study also found a statistically significant (p<0.05) positive effect of the intervention on the level of emotional intelligence of the participants. No significant effect of the intervention on the HRV scores of the study participants was found. Applying Spearman's correlation analysis, very close negative correlations (p<0.001) were found between HRV RMSDD index and heart rate in all parameters of the study, which confirms the activity of rest-mediated vagal tone during the measurement. Strong negative correlations (p<0.01) were found between HRV SDNN index and heart rate, reliable positive correlations (p<0.05) between game efficiency and level of emotional intelligence, between game efficiency and penalty kick accuracy, and between reaction time and respiratory rate. This confirms the importance of breathing-focused exercises in improving adolescent basketball performance. The hypotheses put forward in the study were partially confirmed, however, further in-depth controlled studies on the effect of focusing attention on the mentioned variable parameters would be necessary in the adolescent age.
