Trail running is an endurance sport where the surface and terrain can be very different, performance in this sport is influenced by the body's aerobic capacity and ability to move efficiently on rough trails. This ability is affected by running economy as well as muscle strength. The aim of this research was to evaluate the relationship between the isometric strength of the leg muscles of trail runners and the performance in trail running competitions. In the study was found that: the maximum isometric force is related to the sprint stage completion time; the volume of running training is related to the sprint stage completion time, as well as to the average speed in the distance; isometric muscle endurance test results are not related to a trail race performance; maximum isometric muscle strength is not affected by the volume of running training. The isometric mid-thigh pull test is a reliable test for determining the maximal isometric force of trail runners.
