dc.description.abstract | Hospitalized COVID-19 patients often experience long-term complications, including changes in kidney function. To understand the mechanisms involved in the development of long-term COVID-19 complications and the recovery of patients, analysis of patient urine samples with HILIC-MS and magnetic bead-based multiplex immune test for quantifying biomarkers of kidney lesions were performed. The study has a longitudinal design, with urine samples collected of COVID-19 patients in the acute phase, a month and 3 months later. A linear regression analysis identified 11 statistically significantly changed metabolites, among them different carnitines, which could indicate changes in mitochondrial function. As well as 5 biomarkers of kidney lesions were identified as statistically significantly altered at all timepoints, suggesting long-term kidney lesions.
