| dc.description.abstract | Visaptverošajā mūsdienu pasaulē tīmekļa vietnes un ziņu tulkošana ir svarīgs priekšnoteikums, lai nodrošinātu efektīvu starpkultūru saziņu. Šis maģistra darbs pēta Latvijas Universitātes tīmekļa vietnes tulkošanu no latviešu valodas angļu valodā un analizē, kā un cik lielā mērā tulkotāja - šī maģistra darba autore - rod nepieciešamo tulkotāja brīvības un precizitātes līdzsvaru. Darba teorētiskajā daļā tiek aplūkota tīmekļa vietnes un ziņu tulkošanas loma un nozīme, kā arī tiek diskutēta tulkotāja brīvības un precizitātes koncepcija. Teorija tiek attiecināta praksē, sintaktiskajā, semantiskajā un pragmatiskajā līmenī izpētot dažādus ziņu tulkojumus un koncentrējoties uz mainīgajām brīvības un precizitātes attiecībām. Lai analizētu tulkojumus latviešu un angļu valodā, tiek izmantota empīriskā metode. Kopumā šim mērķim tiek savākti un izpētīti 70 latviešu-angļu tulkojumu paraugi. Iegūtie rezultāti rāda, ka ziņu tulkojumos ir plašas iespējas pārveidot, rediģēt, izlaist un mainīt oriģinālo tekstu, lai panāktu tādu tulkojumu, kas nodrošina domas skaidrību, formas īsumu, teksta lasāmību un saprotamību. Saskaņā ar teksta veidu (informatīvais teksts) un tulkošanas mērķi - piemērot tulkojumus mērķa auditorijai, šī darba autorei kā Latvijas Universitātes tīmekļa vietnes tulkotājai ir iespēja izpaust savu radošo tulkotāja brīvību, pamatoti manipulējot ar oriģinālo tekstu.

| dc.description.abstract | Website and news translation is a prerequisite for efficient intercultural communication in the all-embracing modern world. The present Master Thesis investigates the University of Latvia website translations from Latvian into English made by the author of this Master Thesis and examines how and to what extent the translator balances within freedom-fidelity boundaries. The theoretical part of the present study deals with the role and aims of website and news translation as well as discusses the concept of translator’s freedom within fidelity. The present paper relates theory to practice by examining various aspects of the news translation in terms of the changing degree of translator’s freedom within fidelity at three levels: syntactic, semantic and pragmatic. The empirical method is used to analyse the corpus of Latvian-English translations. For this purpose all together 70 Latvian-English sample pairs are analysed and findings are presented. The data obtained indicate that the news translation has a range of possibilities to rewrite, omit, and change the source text with the aim to ensure clarity, brevity, readability, and comprehensiveness of the target text. The author of this Master Thesis as a translator of the University of Latvia website is granted a creative freedom by reasonable manipulations of the source text within limits set by the text type (informative) and purpose of translation - to adapt translations for the target audience.
