Abstract

Maģistra darba „Kristīgie uzskati par toleranci mūsdienās” mērķis ir meklēt iespējamās atbildes tam, kā mūsdienās izplatītais aicinājums uz toleranci būtu jāsaprot kristīgās draudzes kontekstā. Tiek pētīts, uz kādiem pamatiem varētu balstīties kristīgā tolerance un kādām būtu jābūt tās robežām. Lai sasniegtu izvirzīto mērķi, ir izvirzīti trīs pamatuzdevumi, kas arī atbilst darba dalījumam trīs daļās. Darba pirmajā daļā tiek pētīts pats tolerances jēdziens. Vārda etimoloģijas un semantikas izpētei seko pievēršanās tolerancei jau reliģiskā kontekstā kā arī jautājumi par tolerances robežām un ar to saistītajām problēmām. Otrajā darba daļā tiek aplūkota tolerances idejas attīstības vēsture kristietībā un Rietumu kultūrā. Pētījums noslēdzas ar pievēršanos situācijai mūsdienās un iespējamiem kristīgās tolerances modeļiem. Tiek meklēta atbilde tam, vai kristīgie uzskati par toleranci atbilst modernajiem sekulārajiem priekšstatiem par toleranci.

The purpose of the Master’s paper „Christian Views on Tolerance Today” is to seek possible answers to how the widespread call to the tolerance today should be understood in the context of the Christian church. This involves research about the foundation upon which the Christian tolerance should rest and about the limits of this toleration. Three basic tasks are set in order to reach this purpose. Accordingly the work is divided into three basic parts. The first part of the work is dedicated to the research of the concept of toleration. The investigation of the linguistic roots and the basic meanings of the word is followed by discussion about tolerance in its religious context, the range of toleration, and the problems relating to toleration. The second part of the work reviews the history of the development of the concept of toleration in Christianity and in the Western culture. The research concludes with the turning attention to the situation today and possible models of the Christian toleration. This is a quest for the answer whether the Christian views on tolerance correspond to the modern secular understanding of tolerance.
