The object of the present baccalaureate research work is to prove the positive effect the didactic materials of Maria Montessory have on the fine mobility development of pre – school children.
Discipline in freedom is a powerful principle not easily accepted by supporters of the traditional school methods. This is the central problem analysed in the present work – the essence of active discipline is not easy to accept; however it is an embodiment of a high pedagogical principle.
We tend to think that only a silent and motionless person is disciplined. However, this is a humiliated rather than disciplined personality. The present work offers specific methodology and some ideas of school reformation which include not only working out new materials and timetables in accordance with young children’s abilities, but also organisation of studies, i. e. the spiritual development of the children. Not only are the children moving permanently, but they are also learning permanently. The most valuable discovery is the children’s craving for practical and psychological activities as well as their craving for physical movement. Here lies the novelty of the problem analysed in the present work – the child chooses the material for this activity himself and applies it ‘guided by his creative spirit’.
The research methods included analyses of literature, observation and surveys.
The main deductions are the following: every child is able to make his own choice and use the aids and materials or the exercises determined by his spiritual development; instinct – directed activity develops at greater speed and with greater enthusiasm, which enables the child to achieve the goals no teacher would dram of setting him and not to get bored or tired. Moreover, the child is able to make a great progress in the environment of grown – up culture. Since there is no spiritual development without studies as well as there are no studies without study aids, it is important to provide the child’s environment with development aids (preliminary carefully chosen and checked in scientific experiments) and let the child develop freely with the help of the mentioned aids.
