The title of this work is “Speaking Motivation at English Lessons of Forms 5 – 7”. The author of the work has experienced that pupils of this age are quite passive speakers at English lessons. It can bother them to pass the final English test successfully in Form 9. That is why the aim of the work is to clear up what tasks are the most motivating for the pupils of Forms 5 -7 in order to develop pupils’ speaking skills as successfully as it is possible. The theoretical part of the work gives a review about the important role of the motivation in the process of speaking encouragement, the characteristic of teenagers peculiarities at the age of 11 – 13, the important role of the language in communication process, as well as there has been given a review about the kinds of speaking tasks that motivate pupils to speak English at English lessons.
This is a research of a separate occasion in which there were used several methods: questioning, the method of observation and discussion.
During this work the author got the evidence that, using motivating speaking tasks at English lessons, it is necessary to take in consideration the peculiarities and interests of teenagers, there should be the awareness if pupils realize the aim of the task and if this aim can be reached by everyone of pupils, as well as this task has to be linked with a real life. There has been got the evidence that the tasks are different for each of classes, excepting one – games which fascinate both the pupils of Form 6 and pupils of Form 7. All together there have been found seven kinds of the tasks, which can be used to motivate pupils to speak more than they did it before this research. In Form 5 these are role - plays and jokes, in Form 6 – using interesting pictures or photos and playing games, but in Form 7 – games, discussions in groups and free conversation about topics interesting for pupils.
It is also proved by the author’s observations and discussions with pupils after doing the tasks that these tasks were motivating to speak, interesting and fascinating for the pupils of this age. That is why these tasks motivate pupils to speak more than the tasks used by the author before this research.
This work could also be useful and fascinating for other English teachers, who, has experienced similar problems at their schools.
