Atslēgas vārdi: runas traucējums, verbālais intelekts, neverbālais intelekts, pirmsskolas vecums The aim of the present Master Paper was to research verbal intellect and non-verbal intellect shown by children having specific language impairment and children of the same age whose language was being developed normally.
In the research work there was used Wechler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC – 3, Wechler, 1974). There were used three verbal tests: similarities, vocabulary and comprehension as well as three performance subtests:picture completion, block design and object assembly. The children of preschool age took part in the research. These were 30 children of 6-7 years old who have problems with speech articulation and phonology and who attend the special preschool educational institution destined for children having language disorders. The control group was made of preschool age children (30 children) of 6-7 years old who attend an ordinary preschool educational institution.
Having analized the obtained results we can conclude that there is no statistically essential difference in verbal and non-verbal intellect between children having language impairment and children without language disorders. There is no statistically essential difference in strength of correlations between verbal and non-verbal intellect of children having language impairment and children without language disorders.
Key words: specific language impairment, verbal intellect, non-verbal intellect, preschool age
