Agatas Kristas detektīvstāsti vidusskolnieku vārdu krājuma paplašināšanai angļu valodas stundās

Abstract

Diplomdarba nosaukums ir: Agates Kristijas detektīvs stāsts „Krēta Vērsis” vidusskolnieku angļu valodas krājumu paplašināšanai angļu valodas stundās. Diplomdarba tēma bija izvēlēta balstoties uz pastāvošo viedokli, ka jebkura svešvaloda var būt sekmīgi pasniegta ar oriģinālliteratūras izmantošanas palīdzību. Pastāv viedoklis, ka literatūra oriģinālvalodā ir labs līdzeklis vardu krājuma paplašināšanai. Šī diplomdarba mērķis ir praktiski pielietot šo ideju ar dažādu paņēmienu palīdzību lai paplašinātu skolēnu angļu valodas krājumu. Šī tēma ir aktuāla, jo daudzi skolēni nelasa grāmatas gan dzimtajā valodā, gan svešvalodā. Skolēni varēs ne tikai paplašināt savu angļu valodas vārdu krājumu ar uz Agates Kristijas detektīva stāsta „Krēta Vērsis” balstītiem uzdevumiem. Viņi arī būs motivēti lasīt angliski citu autoru darbus. Gadījuma pētījums tika izmantots pielietojot vairākas metodes. Bija izlasīta un izanalizēta pieejama literatūra par literāro tekstu izmantošanu lai uzzinātu par iespējamām grūtībām, metodēm un pieejām. Lai savāktu nepieciešamus datus šī gadījuma pētījumam tika izveidota aptauja skolēniem kur viņi aprakstīja savu viedokli pret oriģinālliteratūras izmantošanu un attieksmi pret uzdevumiem kas bija piedāvāti viņiem pēc lasīšanas. Šī diplomdarba autors arī piedāvāja izveidotas, leksikas uzdevumus katram no četriem fragmentiem no stāsta „Krēta Vērsis”. Lai varētu pierādīt izmantoto uzdevumi efektivitāti bija piedāvāti testi pēc katra fragmenta ar leksikas uzdevumiem. Gadījuma pētījums tika veikts Rīgas Klasiskā ģimnāzijā ar 10 a klases skolniekiem. Saņemtas informācijas analīze parādīja, ka skolēni var sekmīgi izmantot tekstus oriģinālajā valodā vārdu krājuma paplašināšanai. Testi parādīja studentiem piedāvāto leksikas uzdevumu efektivitāti. Tomēr pats sagatavošanas process ir laikietilpīgs un dārgs.

The title of the Diploma Paper is: Agatha Christie’s Detective Story “The Cretan Bull” for Expanding Students’ Vocabulary at the English Language Classes in Secondary School’. The theme of the Paper was chosen on the ground of the idea that a foreign language can be successfully taught using literature in original language. It is said that a literary text can be a good vehicle for learning new vocabulary. The aim of this Diploma Paper is to put this idea into practice by using different techniques for expanding students’ vocabulary. The theme is topical because students do not read much in their mother tongue as well as foreign literature in original language. Students may learn not only new vocabulary with the help of performing tasks based on pieces from Agatha Christie’s detective story “The Cretan Bull”. They also can be motivated to read literary works by other authors in English. The case study was performed by using various methods. Available literature about the use of literary texts was analyzed in order to get acquainted with possible constraints that might occur, techniques and approaches. For gathering the necessary information for the case study, a questionnaire was designed where students had to reflect their opinion about the use of literary texts and tasks based on them. There were also vocabulary-based tasks on each of 4 excerpts taken from Agatha Christie’s short detective story “The Cretan Bull” that were designed by the author of this diploma paper. Achievement tests were designed after each of the four excerpts. The aim of these 4 tests was to see how effective the vocabulary – based tasks were. The case study was conducted in Riga Classical Gymnasium with form 10a. The analysis of the data obtained revealed that pupils can successfully learn new vocabulary with the help of reading in original language. The achievement tests showed the effectiveness of the vocabulary – based tasks used during the lessons when the excerpts were given to the students to read. However the process of preparing the activities is time – consuming and rather expensive.
