Atslēgas vārdi: vienaudžu iebiedēšana (bullying), audzināšana, skolas klimats, psiholoģiskie simptomi The aim of the research was to find out the links between the involvement in bullying and psychological symptoms, to identify the factors of parenting and school climate that explain the involvement in bullying and to determine whether the factors of parenting and school climate have a moderating effect on the link between the involvement in bullying, and psychological symptoms. The research involved 581 students aged between 13 and 17 (M=14,19, SD=4,49) from 12 Latvian schools. The students answered on-line a questionnaire about the climate in their school, parenting and psychological symptoms. The research showed that there are significant links between the involement in bullying and the factors of school climate and parenting. Students subject to bullying tend to have internalized problems while bullies tend to develop externalized problems. Parents of victims of bullying are less involved, victims feel that they don’t belong in school either, which may increase the intensity of the internalized problems. Meanwhile, bullies tend to suffer from domestic physical violence (punishments) and are punished more often on the whole. Mothers of bullies are generally lowly involved and parental control is weak. A partial moderating effect was confirmed in the victim group: mother involvement moderates the link to affective problems while father involvement moderates the link to anxiousness and conduct problems. In the bully group physical punishments moderate the link between bullying and conduct and oppositional defiant problems. Although these moderators attenuate the link between psychological symptoms and bullying, this link is nevertheless significant.
Key words: bullying, parenting, school climate, psychological symptoms.
