Svešvalodas apguve sākas ar vārdu krājuma mācīšanos, kad sākumskolas skolnieks mācās pamatvārdus, lai varētu izveidot pirmo teikumu. Ir daudz dažādas metodes un paņēmienu, kurus var izmantot, lai apgūtu jaunos svešvārdus. Diplomdarba autorei ir viedoklis, ka pirkstiņrotaļas varētu būt efektīvas, lai aktivizētu bērnu vārdu krājumā jaunos svešvārdus. Sākumskolas klašu skolēni ir īpaši, jo viņiem ir nepieciešama īpaši rūpīga pieeja, lai noturētu interesi un motivāciju mācīties visu laiku, tāpēc diplomdarba autore uzskata, ka ar pirkstiņrotaļām sākumskolas skolēni varētu tik motivēti pilnveidot vārdu apgūšanu aizraujošā veidā.
Diplomdarba autore ir veikusi izpēti kā pirkstiņrotaļas var palīdzēt sākumskolas skolēniem attīstīt vārdu krājumu angļu valodā. Kā pētījuma metode tika izvēlēts atsevišķa gadījuma pētījums, kas sastāvēja no 18 stundu novērojuma, anketas 2. klases skolēniem un intervija ar 2.klases angļu valodas skolotāju.
Pētījums parādīja, ka sākumskolas skolēniem patika mācīšanās, izmantojot pirkstiņrotaļas. Tādu pašu viedokli izteica arī 2. klases angļu valodas skolotāja. Pēc mācību stundu novērošanas, pētnieks apstiprināja, ka sākumskolas skolēni bija ieinteresēti iesaistīties pirkstiņ-rotaļās un uzdevumos balstoties uz tām.
Tika secināts, ka pirkstiņ-rotaļas ir piemērotas sākumskolas skolēniem angļu valodas vārdu krājuma apguvei par cik mācību procesā samērā daudz bija iesaistītas pirkstu un ķermeņa kustības. Balstoties uz savāktajiem datiem par pirkstiņ-rotaļām vārdu krājuma apguvei, diplomdarbs var tikt izmantots kā ieskats angļu valodas skolotājiem, kuri vēl nav izmantojuši pirkstiņ-rotaļas līdz šim.

Foreign language acquisition starts from the vocabulary learning when the young learner studies the basic words to be able to make the first sentence. There are various ways and techniques how to introduce the new vocabulary. The author of the Diploma Paper has a standpoint that finger-plays could be an effective way to introduce learners with new vocabulary in English. Young learners are specific as they need a special approach to keep an interest and motivation all the time, so with a help of finger-plays young learners could be motivated to perfect their vocabulary in an attractive way.
The researcher has explored how finger-plays can help learners to develop their English vocabulary learning. As the research method a case study was chosen which consisted of observation of 18 English lessons, questionnaire for the learners of Form 2 and an interview with one English teacher.
The research showed that young learners enjoyed learning English vocabulary through finger-plays. The same opinion was supported by the teacher of English of Form 2. The researcher acknowledged that the learners were interested to be involved in the finger-plays and activities based on them.
It was concluded that finger-plays are appropriate for young learners as they liked to show the meaning of the words through movement of fingers and body. Based on the data gathered about finger-plays as a method for developing vocabulary, the Diploma Paper can be used as an insight for teachers who have not used finger-plays so far.
