Angļu valodas mācību grāmatas izvēle un izvērtēšana vidusskolā

Abstract

Komerciālo mācību grāmatu tirgus ir ļoti plašs un pilns ar daudzām mācību grāmatām. Grāmatu izdevēji apgalvo, ka tieši šī grāmata ir vislabākā un visvairāk piemērota katrai skolotājai. Skolotāji var viegli apmulst plašajā mācību grāmatu dažādībā, ja ir jāizvēlas tikai viena mācību grāmata mācību gadam no visām piedāvātajām, kas vislabāk atbilstu skolotāju un skolēnu vēlmēm un prasībām. Angļu valodas mācību grāmatas izvēle un izvērtēšana tika izvēlēta, jo tā ieņem nozīmīgu vietu katras skolotājas darbā. Atbilstoši izvēlēta mācību grāmata skolotājam var aiztaupīt laiku, lai meklētu papildus materiālus un veicināt to efektivitāti. Diplomdarba mērķis ir izpētīt kritērijus angļu valodas mācību grāmatas izvēlei un izvērtēšanai vidusskolā. Atsevišķa gadījuma pētījums tika veikts Cēsu Draudzīgā Aicinājuma Valsts Ģimnāzijā. Pētījums tika veikts divu mēnešu garumā diplomdarba autora prakses laikā vidusskolā 2008. gadā. Pētījumā tika iesaistīti 25 11. klases skolēni un viena angļu valodas skolotāja, kas izmanto mācību grāmatu ”Inside Out” (līmenis virs vidējā). Tika izmantotas trīs datu vākšanas metodes: mācību grāmatas satura analīze, intervijas ar angļu valodas skolotāju un anketas skolēniem. Atsevišķa gadījuma pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka mācību grāmata ”Inside Out” atbilst mācību grāmatas analīzes kritērijiem, kā arī kopumā apmierina skolotājas un skolēnu vēlmēm, un interesēm. Tomēr ir aspekti, kas neatbilst analīzes kritērijiem un neapmierina skolotājas un skolēnu vēlmes un prasības. Iegūtie dati pierādīja, ka kritiski izvēloties un izvērtējot angļu valodas mācību grāmatu tā daļēji apmierina skolotājas un skolēnu vēlmes un prasības, jo nav ideālas mācību grāmatas. Taču var veikt mācību grāmatas pielāgošanu un šādā gadījumā tā pilnībā apmierina skolēnu un skolotāju vēlmes un intereses.

The market of commercial coursebooks is very broad and full of different books. Publishers state that exactly this one is the best and the most suitable for a teacher. Teachers can be easily confused with the huge variety of coursebooks if they have to select one coursebook for the study year from all available that could be the best one to satisfy all needs and demands of teachers’ and learners’. The matter of selecting and evaluating the English language coursebooks was chosen as it takes a significant part in a teacher’s work. An appropriately selected coursebook can save time of searching additional materials and facilitate its effectiveness. The Aim of this Diploma Paper is to explore the criteria of the English language coursebook selection and evaluation at secondary school. The case study was carried out in Friendly Appeal Cesis State Grammar School. The research was done for two months during the author’s teaching practice at secondary school in 2008. 25 learners of grade 11 and one English teacher who works with the coursebook Inside Out (upper intermediate) were involved in the research. Three methods of data collection were used: the content analysis of the coursebook Inside Out, the interviews with an English teacher and the questionnaires for the learners of grade 11. The results of the case study showed that in general the coursebook Inside Out corresponds to the analysis of the coursebook criteria, as well as on the whole satisfies the teacher’s and learners’ needs and demands. However, there are some aspect that does not satisfy the analysis of the coursebook criteria, the teacher’s and learners’ needs and demands. The finding shows that critically selecting and evaluating the English language coursebook it can partly satisfy the needs and demands of the teacher and learners who use the coursebook, because no coursebook is ideal. Thus adaptation can be done and in this way the coursebook satisfies completely all needs and demands of the teacher and learners.
