Respondenti bija vecuma posmā no 18 – 25 gadiem.
Atslēgas vārdi: aizspriedumi, kontakta biežums, kontakta nozīmīgums The aim of this study was to establish if there is an interconnection between more contacts with foreigners and lover level of prejudice, and interconnection between contact importance and lover level of prejudice against foreigners in Latvia. There was a prejudice questionnaire made for this purpose. To determine prejudice a situation description, offensive for locals, was given; after participants have read this situation, they were given six pairs of human photos to evaluate in interval scale, each pair to be evaluated separately as a possible offender (for six local residents there were polarized six foreigner photos). To determine frequency of foreign contacts and contact importance, participants were asked how often and how personally important has been their contact with foreigners; seven response alternatives were given for each of those questions. This prejudice questionnaire has been made by analogues of Abouds (2003), Wagner’s et al. (2003) and van Dick at el. (2004) works, where Allport’s (1954) intergroup contact theory, has been a ground for the studies. 96 participants took part in this study out of whom 65 were women and 31 were men. Data was collected in the premises of Latvian University and University of Economics in Riga, the average age of participants was from 18 to 25 years old. Because target group of this study was local residents, there were Russians who live in Latvia included in my study. There wasn’t found a support for my hypothesis in this study, no interconnection was established between contact frequency and prejudice and no interconnection was established between contact importance and prejudice. Which can be explained by the fact, that participants hasn’t show any prejudice against foreigners in this study, but has shown prejudice against local residents, which is in conflict with most of the theory’s I have described in this work. The absence of prejudice could be explained by the low inner validity of this questionnaire, which could be caused by the mismatch of situation used in questionnaire – probably it didn’t address the actual problem, or another reason could be false information – like socially desirable answers given by participants.
Key words: prejudice, contact frequency, personal importance of contact
