Abstract
Most Turkish young adults who enter into parenthood do not possess the characteristics of a good adult, which poses significant problems or implications to their children’s growth and development; and their children after them. The childhood stage is a critical period in the life of any individual since this is when most of the cognitive and emotional developments of the child take place, thus affecting the overall development of the child (UNICEF, 2013). According to UNICEF (2013), in Turkey, the child’s cognitive and emotional development is not properly achieved due to failures in the parent’s education and abilities. However, failures in parenting can be traced back to the root and this scenario expanded such that the lack of proper parenting is perceived not only on the basis of the parents skills, education and abilities, but due to the characteristics that are being passed from generation to generation leading to parents who cannot make informed adult decisions and therefore impede their children’s development (Bowlby, 1956).
