The objective of the bachelor’s thesis is to determine tendencies and directions for the improvement of the banking system.
The author concludes that in the Latvian banking system the main driving forces are demand for credits generated by real estate market growth at the current situation of low interest rates, cooperation with mother banks and availability of modern transaction technologies transfer to Latvian banking system.
While the crediting is on the rise as well as number of clients and payment cards sold are increasing rapidly profitability and effectivity ratios of banks are increasing. That can be explained by general economical growth which is witnessed by the growth of GNP by more than 8%.
For the main proposals the author wants to propose to analyze risks associated with the development of real estate market as the share of banking credits there is high and growing , reasonable fight against money laundering, necessity to bring personalized solutions to large clients of the bank as well the investments in the payment system .From the view of development of banking system banks should use opportunity to work in Russia where there are high profit opportunities even by taking into account high risks associated with this market.
In the Baltic states there is growing pressure on non-resiodent business especially in Latvia where 51% of deposits belong to non-residents.So it is important formany banks to analyze copperation with non-residents to not loose positions acquired in many years.
