Atslēgas vārdi: būnas, meandrs, Lielupe, granulometriskais sastāvs In 1961 in Jūrmala was established groyne field to stop the rapid Lielupe River meander development. The author's task is to ascertain whether the meander development is now taking place and whether the existing bank protection can accomplish its task, and does it creates sediment deficit downstream River Lielupe and is there relation between sediment granulometric composition and the space between groyne, where the sample was taken. It provides answers to questions about the need for such groyne field and its accordance with its task.
During the research it was found that there was no meander development in the last 20 years and that there is definite need to restore the groyne field. Also groyne field performs its functions, without causing sediment deficit downstream River Lielupe, and relation was not found.
Key words: groyne field, meander, Lielupe River, granulometry
