Emotikonas - neverbālās komunikācijas prakse tekstā

Abstract

Maģistra darba „Emotikonas – neverbālās komunikācijas prakse tekstā” mērķis ir izpētīt to, vai emotikonas datora mediētajā komunikācijā pilda tādas pašas funkcijas kā neverbālās norādes klātienes komunikācijā. Darba teorētiskajā daļā apskatītas piecas teorētiskās pieejas – Sociālās klātbūtnes teorija, Sociālā konteksta norāžu teorija, Deindividualizācijas efektu sociālās identitātes modelis, Hiperpersonālās komunikācijas teorija un Sociālās informācijas apstrādes teorija, kas skaidro attiecību veidošanos datora mediētā vidē un norāda uz neverbālo norāžu lomu šajā procesā. Darba empīriskajā daļā veikta e-pasta sarakstes kontentanalīze, kuras rezultātā secināts, ka datora mediētās komunikācijas dalībnieki emotikonas patiesi izmanto tādiem pašiem mērķiem kā neverbālās norādes klātienes komunikācijā.

The main purpose of this Master’s thesis „Emoticons – practice of nonverbal communication in text” was to find out if emoticons in computer-mediated communication are used to serve the same functions as nonverbal cues in face-to-face communication. In the theoretical part of this paper five theoretical approaches are reviewed, namely, Social Presence Theory, Social Context Cues Theory, Social Identity of Deindividuation Effects model, Theory of Hyperpersonal Communication and Social Information Processing Theory. These are used to explain relationship building process in computer-mediated environment and point out the role of nonverbal cues in this process. The empirical part of the paper contains content analysis of e-mails, which concludes with inference that emoticons in computer-mediated communication indeed are used to fulfill the same functions which nonverbal cues serve in face-to-face communication.
