Šis bakalaura darbs pēta metaforu lietojumu lietišķajos rakstos. Pētījuma mērķis ir apskatīt metaforu lietojumu lietišķas dabas rakstos, kas tikuši atlasīti no starptautiskiem ziņu laikrakstiem The Economist un Bloomberg Businessweek. Darba uzdevumi ir izpētīt pieejamās teorijas par metaforām, apkopot attiecīgus rakstu piemērus pētījuma vajadzībām, veikt diskursa analīzi un iegūto kvantitatīvo datu apstrādi, kā arī formulēt būtiskus secinājumus. Pētījuma rezultātus veido kvantitatīvo un kvalitatīvo empīriskās daļas analīzes dati. Pētījuma rezultāti ir atklājuši, ka analizētajos rakstos ir sastopami dažādi konceptuālo metaforu veidi gan normālā, gan izvērstā veidā ar tādiem avotu domēniem kā karš, veselība, sports, augi, dzīvnieki, cilvēku veiktās ikdienas darbības utml. Šo metaforu lietojums visbiežāk var tikt izskaidrots ar to iztēli rosinošajām, skaidrojošajām un labskanības īpašībām.

The aim of this research is to examine the use of metaphors in business related articles selected from the news magazines The Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek. The objectives are to study the secondary sources on the topic of metaphors, collect relevant corpus of articles for the purpose of the research and process the data obtained, make comparisons conducting the discourse analysis, and to formulate relevant conclusions. The results of the research are based upon the quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data obtained in the empirical part of the study. The research results have revealed that the analysed articles contain various types of conceptual metaphor in both normal and expanded forms with such source domains as war, health, sports, plants, animals, people's daily activities, etc. Most commonly, their use can be explained by their imaginative, explanatory and rhetoric characteristics.
