Mammography is roentgenological examination of the breast tissue by low intensity x-radiation. This is the most important and effective method to diagnose the breast cancer. To get the pictures in high resolution, to reduce the x-radiation patient gets and to improve the diagnostic precision, the mammography units are being improved and upgraded all the time.
The new breast examination technology – the digital mammography unit with tomosynthesis operation - has added the range of diagnostic examinations. Tomosynthesis is the method of creating images, that helps to get the pictures of the breast examination in three dimensions, creating them from different projection angles, thus showing the breast in cross-section with interval of 1mm. Using this method, it is possible to see the created images from layer to layer, to see the breast structure in every layer separately and see the moving images from three sides.
The main task for the research was to find out and collect the advantages of tomosynthesis during mammography examination with the aim to fortify the gained dose of x-radiation.
During the qualitative research there were worked out and analysed the criterions for a qualitative mammography examination.
Tomosynthesis has new diagnostic advantages that allow to interpret the gained images more precisely, to discover the tumours, which have complicated, not typical localization and which cannot be visualized with the diagnostic methods that were available till now – can be deduced according the results of the research the author has made.
