Atslēgas vārdi: televīzija, info-izklaide, vieglās ziņas, auditorija The goal of the Bachelor paper “The comparison of the infotainment TV programs “Bez Tabu” and “Tautas Balss”: content and audience's attitude" is to research and determine to what extent the content of those shows matches the interests of their audience.
Considering the fact that this genre of shows is rather new to the medium of journalism there is still no single theoretical approach or criteria on how to analyze these types of shows.
That is why the analysis of the shows that combine the information and entertainment, or as it is commonly called – infotainment - is based on its theoretical materials, specific features of the “soft media” and particular values and criteria of classical journalism from the theories of Johan Galtung and Mari Ruge (1965, Swedish sociologists).
There are several research methods that were chosen for this research: interviews, analysis of the focus group, quantitative and qualitative content-analysis. The research data allows to determine whether the producers’ vision for the content of the shows “Bez Tabu” and “Tautas Balss” matches the interests of their audience. It also shows the amount of the dominance of the format over shows’ content based on the criteria for infotainment.
The Bachelor paper consists of 4 – theoretical, methodological, empirical and analytical parts. All of the parts are sorted into chapters and sections. Theoretical part deals with the definition of the news and the theory of the values of the journalism as well as the criteria of the journalistic qualities; the esence of the „soft news” and the characteristics of the infotainment; specifics of the television journalism and the way the televison portrays the news; and finally it takes a closer look at the environment of the information in Latvia and the „concept of audience”.
Methodological part includes the description of the used methodes – semi-structured interviews, analysis of the focus group, quantitative and qualitative content-analysis.
The empirical part of the paper shows the course of the research and the results that are analyzed in the analytical part of the paper. The rest of the materials that were acquired during the reseach are added to the annex of the paper.
