This work is focused on study of the carbonate inclusions present in siliciclastic
deposits of the Devonian Gargždai Beds, ArukŅla Formation and Burtnieki Formation. Basing
on outcrop and drillcore documentation and studies of thin-sections, there is characterised
distribution, composition and structure of these inclusions. There are deposits characterised of
the Gargždai Beds in the drilling „Atašiene-9”, deposits of the ArukŅla Formation at Kurzeme
and deposits of the Burtnieki Formation at eastern coast of the Riga Gulf. Basing on results
obtained and the data of specialised sedimentological literature, the origin of carbonate
inclusions is discussed. It is concluded that in upper part of section of the Gargždai Beds
dolocretes are present, which have formed in subaerial environment. Carbonate mineral
aggregates in the ArukŅla and Burtnieki formations have formed both in subaerial
environment and in groundwater.
