Due to eutrophication, oligotrophic pine tree forests are shrinking, changing their soil and mesofauna, which in turn inhibit the growth of new pine trees. These processes can be caused both by human activities and climatic conditions. The objective of this study is to survey mesofauna changes in eutrophicated oligotrophic pine forests, and see whether this can be used as a bioindicator for eutrophication. Results of the study show a correlation between eutrophication and the population density of certain mesofauna species.
