Atslēgvārdi: tulkošanas teorija, medicīnas tekstu tulkošana, tehniskā tulkošana, lietošanas instrukcija, speciālā lietojuma valoda jeb SLV, datorizētā tulkošana, terminoloģija, termins This master thesis is devoted to medical text translation, technical translation, Language for Special Purposes (LSP), as well as medical terminology and term formation. The goal of the paper is to investigate, whether translation of user manuals for medical devices and equipment software might be considered as technical translation and is a subsection of medical translation. The author has studied and compared the theory on translation, focusing on the medical text and technical translation. In addition, the insight into the medical terminology has been provided, as it is the most important challenge to be solved. In the empirical part two operator manuals have been described and analysed; ultrasound breast analysis software and automatic blood pressure monitor. The applied translation methods have been analysed reproducing texts and terms from English into Latvian. It has been proved that the translation of user manuals on medical devices and equipment software is regarded as technical translation and is the subsection of medical translation.
