Ģertrūdes Stainas romāna "Alises Toklasas autobiogrāfija" tulkošanas īpatnības

Abstract

Maģistra darba mērķis ir analizēt nozīmīgākās problēmas autora veiktā Ģertrūdes Stainas romāna Alises Toklasas autobiogrāfija tulkojumā un pamatot, kādi apsvērumi noteikuši tulkotāja izvēli konkrētās tulkošanas situācijās. Darbs sastāv no trim nodaļām, secinājumiem, tēzēm un izmantotās literatūras un avotu saraksta. Pirmajā nodaļā noskaidrots, kas īpašs raksturīgs literārajai tulkošanai, un apkopotas teorētiskas atziņas, ko varētu attiecināt uz literāro tulkošanu. Otrajā nodaļā sniegtas ziņas par romāna autori, viņas nozīmīgākajiem darbiem, vietu literatūras vēsturē, romānu Alises Toklasas autobiogrāfija un tā galveno varoni. Trešā nodaļa veltīta nozīmīgākajām tulkošanas īpatnībām, un tajā pamatota autora (tulkotāja) izvēle konkrētās tulkošanas situācijās. Darbam pievienots autora veikts romāna vienas nodaļas tulkojums.

The objective of the master’s paper is to outline peculiarities in translation of Gertrude Stein’s novel Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, performed by the author, and justify translation methods applied in a given case. The paper consists of three subdivided chapters, conclusions, theses and a list of bibliography and other sources. Chapter 1 outlines characteristics of literary translation and provides a summary of translation theories most relevant to literary translation. In chapter 2, a review of the author, her most significant works and place in the history of literature is given. The chapter also provides background information on the novel Autobiography of Alice B. Tolkas and its protagonist. Chapter 3 is dedicated to most significant peculiarities in translation of the novel; justification of author’s (translator’s) choice of translation strategies in various cases is also provided in the chapter. As an appendix, a Latvian translation of chapter 4 of the novel accomplished by the author of the paper is included.
