Pētījuma mērķis darbā "Subkultūra populārajā kultūrā: hipsteru ēras komunikācijas diskurss Latvijā (2010-2012)" ir noskaidrot, kas ir hipsters Latvijā, vai hipsters Latvijā ir tāda persona, kas “klausās „Radio 101”, lasa „Rīgas laiku” un „IR”, noliedz to, ka ir hipsters, nekad nepeld pa straumei un brauc ar fiksīti”.
Darba teorētiskajā daļā tiek aplūkotas teorētiskās izpratnes par populāro kultūru, slavenībām populārajā kultūrā, subkultūrām mūsdienās un to vēsturisko attīstību.
Pētnieciskajā daļā tiek noskaidrots Latvijas hipsteru komunikācijas diskurss. Pētījums tiek veikts divās savstarpēji saistītās daļās. Pirmajā posmā ar kvantitatīvās kontentanalīzes palīdzību tiek analizēts hipsteru atspoguļojums Latvijas medijos. Noskaidrots kā sabiedrība uztver un interpretē hipsterus Latvijā, veicot sabiedrības anketēšanu un daļēji strukturētās ekspertu intervijas. Otrajā posmā tika veikta kritiskā diskursa analīze (KDA), ar kuras palīdzību tika noteikts komunikācijas diskurss.
Darbs konstruēts trijos posmos: teorijas, metodoloģijas un pētījuma daļā, nosakot hipsteru komunikācijas diskursu Latvijā.

The aim of the research „Subculture of popular culture: the discourse of communication of hipsters in Latvia (2010–2012)” is to find out what is the hipster in Latvia, is the hipster a person who „listens „ Radio 101”, reads magazine „ Rigas laiks” and „ Ir”, denies that he is hipster, never „ flows along the stream” and rides with fixed gear bicycle”.
In theoretical part of the research, the theoretical understandings about popular culture, celebrities within the popular culture, subcultures and their historical development are observed.
In research part, the communication discourse of the Latvian hipsters is found out. At the first stage, in accordance with quantitative content analysis, the reflection of hipsters in mass media is analysed. According to the survey of the society and the semi – structured interviews of the experts, it is determined how society comprehends and interprets hipsters in Latvia. At the second stage, in accordance with critical discourse analysis (CDA), the discourse of communication was determined.
In order to determine the discourse of communication of hipsters in Latvia, the research consists of three stages: theoretical, methodological and research stage.
