Darba Latvijā un ārzemēs dzīvojošo latviešu identitātes komunikācija virtuālajās kopienās mērķis ir izpētīt, kā latvisko identitāti konstruē ārzemēs un Latvijā dzīvojoši latvieši diskutējot interneta portālos diena.lv, nra.lv, la.lv, latviesi.com un kura no identitātes formām ir dominējošā. Teorētiskajā daļā ar atšķirīgu teorētiķu uzskatiem apskatīta identitāte saistībā ar tādām mūsdienu tendencēm kā globalizācija, iedzīvotāju migrācija, komunikācija internetā. Empīriskajā daļā, datorizētajā MonoConc un kvalitatīvajā kontentanalīzē, konstatēts, ka latviskās identitātes izpratne ir neviennozīmīga, saistīta ar indivīda personīgu izvēli un emocionālu pieķeršanos latviskajam. Diskusijās dominē etniskā identitāte, līdz ar to apstiprinot globalizācijas tendences un šī pētījuma aktualitāti Latvijā.

The title of the research is Identity Communication in virtual communities of expatriate and domestic Latvians. The aim of the research is, firstly, to investigate how Latvian identity is designed by those expatriate and domestic Latvians who communicate in the internet web sites diena.lv, nra.lv, la.lv, latviesi.com, secondly, to find out which identity form is dominant. Therefore there is a review of different idenity theories which are connected with such novadays’ tendencies like globalisation, migration, computer mediated communicayion. In the empirical part of the research there are detected various constructions of Latvian which are self-chosen and emotionaly connected with all Latvian. The ethnic identity is dominant therefore it confirms tendency of globalisation and the urgency of topic.
