Pavisam intervēti piecpadsmit jaunieši no dažādām Latvijas augstskolām.

The aim of the bachelor’s paper is to establish the reasons that make young people use credit cards and see if they recognize risks related with the usage, as well as study the most common purchases made.
The target group of the research is the young generation between the age of 18 and 25 who study at any higher educational establishments in Latvia full time and possess a credit card. The partly structural interviews were employed as a method of data collection. There were fifteen young people from various higher educational establishments in Latvia interviewed.
The theory of consumerism to study the motivation of young people choosing to use credit cards and the ways of usage are employed in the bachelor’s paper.
The hypothesis drawn in the starting phase of the research that the younger generation usually choose credit cards and make use of the borrowed money unthinkingly – for daily purchases, clothes, accumulating huge debts that are difficult to pay back – was proved during the research in its entirety.
Keywords: loan; credit card; consumer society; consumer culture; consumerism; younger generation.
