Abstract

Kontrastā ar aizgajušā gadsimta beigu datortehnoloģiju attīstības monopolistiskajām tendencēm, kad patērētāju tirgu dominēja IBM ražotās tehnoloģijas un Microsoft izstrādātās operētājsistemas personālajām darbstacijām, pēdējā desmitgadē šī attīstība ir zarojusies atšķirīgos virzienos, arvien aktuālākas kļūst pārnēsājamās ierīces un atklātā pirmkoda programmatūra, attīstot pieprasījumu pēc alternatīva tipa tehnoloģijām. Darbā tiek aprakstīti šo dažādo tehnoloģiju darbības un attīstības principi, galvenokārt pievēršot uzmanību izplatītākajām operētājsistēmām un to atkarību no aparatūras, tādējādi liekot pamatu darba pētnieciskajai daļai, kur tiek eksperimentēts ar dažādu ierīču savietojamību ar operētājsistēmām, kuru darbināšanai šīs ierīces primāri nav paredzētas.

In contrast with the monopolistic tendencies in the advancement of computer technologies during the past century's later years, when the consumer market was dominated by devices manufactured by IBM and software developed by Microsoft, this advancement has branched into different directions during the past decade – the growing influence of mobile devices and open-source software has advanced the demand for alternative types of technology. This thesis describes the development of these different technologies and their operation principles, focusing on the most operating systems and their dependency on hardware, thus laying the groundwork for the research portion of the thesis, where the author experiments with different devices' compatibility with operating systems they were not primarily meant for.
