There is a Lot of research and reports in other literary sources , that the type of swamp and their paleobotanical composition, are dependent on which means of nutrition, either from atmospheric precipitation or from uptake of groundwater. The chemical composition of swamp water is also affected by which method of collecting water.
The aim of my bachelor’s thesis is to determine the chemical composition of high and low swamp water types, and to compare the differences between them.
For research purposes I collected water samples from both types of swamp, (from Cenas mire and Kašķu bog) and did chemical composition analyses. Using different methods of chemical analysis, the quantity of cations and anions in water samples were calculated. Charts of the main components were prepared, and the gathered data was analyzed and compared with statistics from literary sources about the chemical composition of water. Finally results were obtained and from these it can be concluded, that water from the low swamp type has more minerals and chemicals, because it extracts water from under the ground, but less minerals were found in the water from the high swamp type, which gathers it’s water from precipitation in the atmosphere.
Key words: swamp, groundwater, chemical composition of water, minerals, nutrition of swamp.
