Atslēgas vārdi: Deivids Linčs, identitāte, neo-noir, naratīvs, intertekstualitāte The topic of this paper is: ”Identity problems and elements of neo-noir in David Lynch's films.”
The objective of the work is to determine the ability of David Lynch’s films as an audio-visual medium to reveal the issues of identity and the significance of neo-noir style in the creation of message.
The theoretical part includes theories about identity, neo-noir style, intertextuality and the elements of narrative structure.
The work includes analysis of two movies made by D. Lynch: “Mullholand Drive” and “Lost Highway”.
Films were analyzed using three methods of qualitative research. With narrative analysis were determined identity problems and the significance of it in the creation of message. Based on semiotic analysis, neo-noir style traits were searched in films. The third method of research, semi-structured interview, supplemented thoughts that have been learned from analysis of films.
The results of research show features of identity problems and neo-noir style ability to influence the film’s message and narrative structure.
This paper consists of a preface, seven chapters, which include theory and film analysis, conclusions and results. Full transcripts of interviews and images of films analyzed in work can be found in the appendix.
