Īpašības vārds kā gramatiska kategorija

Abstract

Šī bakalaura darba mērķis ir analizēt kritērijus, kas nosaka īpašības vārda kategoriju, kā arī izpētīt īpašības vārdu grupu angļu valodas gramatikā, lai noskaidrotu vai norādāmie vārdi ir vai nav īpašības vārdi. Tēmas izvēle ir balstīta uz autora personīgo interesi šajā jomā, kā arī uz vēlmi veikt šāda veida pētījumus nākotnē. Šis darbs sastāv no trīs nodaļām un tajā tiek pētīta īpašības vārdu vieta kopējā vārdšķiru sistēmā, angļu valodas īpašības vārdu un norādāmo vārdu veidi un to semantiskās, morfoloģiskās un sintaktiskās īpašības. Tika izpētīti divi krājumi, lai izvērtētu īpašības vārdu un norādāmo vārdu pielietojumu. Pētniecības darbā izmantotas šādas metodes: teorētisko avotu analīze un salīdzinājums. Pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka lielākā daļa norādāmo vārdu nav uzskatāmi par īpašības vārdiem, jo to nozīme un funkcijas atšķiras. Angļu valodā norādāmie vārdi nevar tikt lietoti aizstājot īpašības vārdus. Atslēgvārdi: gramatisks kritērijs, vārdšķira, īpašības vārdu grupa, semantika, morfoloģija, sintakse, norādāmie vārdi. -

The present bachelor paper is aimed at analysing the criteria for defining the category of adjective and to investigate the adjective class in English grammar in order to ascertain whether determinatives are or are not adjectives. The reason for choosing this particular topic for research is based on the author’s personal interests concerning this issue, as well as the intention to conduct more extensive research in future. The present paper consists of three chapters and investigates the place of adjectives in the overall system of word classes, the types of adjectives and determiners in the English language as well as their semantic, morphological and syntactic properties. To explain how adjectives and determinatives function in English theoretical aspects and for empirical data two corpora have been investigated. The methods of investigation comprise analysing and comparing relevant theoretical material. The result of the research demonstrates that the majority of determinatives are not adjectives because they are not identical in meaning and function, and cannot be used interchangeably in English.
