The aim of the present Bachelor Paper is to explore the themes reflected in literary works of sentimental tradition, as well as imagery used extensively by sentimental poets to express their feelings and states of mind about the surroundings. In the first chapter, the author looks at the British history and culture of the 18th century, which gave rise to the sentimental literary movement. In the second chapter, the author gives an insight on the nature of the sentimental literary movement and its most prominent representatives. The practical part is devoted to the description of the themes and imagery reflected in the poetry of Thomas Gray, Edward Young, James Thomson, and Oliver Goldsmith.
