| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Aim of the research was to characterize HIV infection risks in male homosexual contacts. An anonymous cross-sectional study was conducted in 2008 in Riga (N=252). Results: Prevalence of HIV in the group was 4%. The proportion of participants with good knowledge about HIV prevention methods is 71.5%. The proportion of participants with correct beliefs about AIDS was 58.7%. The proportion of participants who have had sex with more than 1 partner in last 12 months was 24.6%. The proportion of participants who used condom at last anal sex between men was only 49.8%. The proportion of participants who always used condom in anal sex in last 12 months was 26.9%. It was found that MSM having correct beliefs about AIDS are twice more likely to undergo HIV testing (OR 2.36, 95% CI 1.4-4.0). There were no statistically significant associations found between good knowledge of HIV prevention methods and correct beliefs about AIDS and the prevalence of sexual risk behaviour. | en_US |
