Master thesis ‘‘Black humor analysis in advertising: analysis of print advertising via conceptual blending theory. (Creative advertising archive ‘‘Ads of the World’’ 2004.-2012.).” research problem concerns, first, the analysis of the incongruity between two mental input spaces and, second, the incongruity between the stimulus (black humor) and the product of advertising, and, third, the possible influence of the two mentioned incongruities on the consumer’s response in black humor. The research is based on three core theories - conceptual blending theory, humor incongruity theory and incongruity theory in advertising. The primary goal of the research is to explore the semiotic structure of humor in advertising and impact of black humor in audience. Methods used in the empirical part of the thesis are conceptual blending method as a methodological background, visual content analysis and survey analysis. The thesis consists of three parts - theory review of humor and advertising, analysis of research methods used in the thesis, and the analysis of research results and discussion, followed by a conclusion.
