Bakalaura darba tēma ir „Vēstules kā informācijas nesējs”. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, kāda ir vēstuļu kā informācijas nesēja loma vēsturiskā skatījumā un mūsdienu situācijas aspektā, apzinot to ārējās formas un iekšējā satura attiecības.
Pētījuma teorētisko bāzi veido Birgera Hjorlanda teorijas par darbības lauka analīzi bibliotēkzinātnē un informācijas zinātnē divu metožu izmantojums – dokumentu izpēte un vēsturiskā pieeja. Darba empīriskā pētījuma daļā ar kontentanalīzes palīdzību veikta vēstuļu paraugu analīze tīmeklī pieejamajās digitālajās kolekcijās, kā arī intervija par vēstuļu nozīmi cilvēku dzīvēs.
Pētījums atklāj, ka vēstules ir nozīmīgs informācijas nesējs, neatkarīgi no to materiālās formas izmaiņām laika gaitā. Secināts, ka vēstulēm piemīt daudzas kultūras un sociālās īpašības, kā arī aktualitāte dažādu zinātņu nozaru skatījumā.

The purpose of the Bachelor Thesis „Letters as the information medium” is to clarify the role of letters as the information medium in the historical view and in the aspect of nowadays situation by getting to know the relation between the outside form of the letters and their inside content.
The theoretical basis of the research is structured from two specific approaches of the „Domain analytic theory in library and information science” by Birger Hjørland – document and historical studies. The empirical research holds the contentanalysis of letters in the online digital collections and an interview about the role of letters in the people’s lives.
Research shows that letters are important information medium, not depending on the change of their material form by the time. Letters have lots of cultural and social characteristics and the actuality in the middle of different sciences.
