The prevalence of infection in Latvia is high – 79%, and this is related to high gastric cancer incidence. This is important to follow the guidelines on H.pylori eradication therapy to achieve good result of effective therapy.
Altogether 237 patients attending control investigations for the effect of eradication therapy were enrolled to the study and questioned. The total efficacy of the eradication therapy was 81,44% (83,41% for the first eradication attempt, and 68,75% in the case of a repeated therapy). The effect of the initial eradication therapy was higher than that for a repeated therapy; prolonged eradication therapy (10-14 days) was more effective than therapy that was considered a standard previously (7 days). The efficacy of correctly prescribed therapy was higher than that for inappropriately prescribed treatment. In general, most of the eradication therapies were presecribed according to the current EU (Maastricht IV) guidelines.
